Zoom & OpenExchange Make the Case for Using More Video for Investor Communications
Investor RelationsStrategyVirtual Meeting Leaders Describe How They’re Reimagining the Corporate Earnings Cycle for Hundreds of Companies around the World
Two of the global leaders in virtual communications set forth a joint vision today about how companies can use new video platforms to elevate how they inform and engage the investment community. In a co-sponsored webinar to which thousands of investor relations professionals were invited, a panel from Zoom Video Communications, OpenExchange, and Raymond James shared examples of how cutting-edge companies are setting a new standard for virtual investor communications.
“A lot of Investor Relations is about building trust,” explained Charles Eveslage, who heads Zoom’s Investor Relations team. “Management can build trust better when they’re able to communicate using more than just words and information and to use their facial expressions.” He recounted how investors consistently offer feedback each quarter about the added value of Zoom’s video earnings call format.
“Analysts and investors are now used to seeing video,” said OpenExchange COO Allen Deary. “And they’re used to the interaction and connectivity they get by watching the CEO, CFO, and IRP speak. And so, audio over no slides is just not the way to go any more.” He explained how OpenExchange is working with hundreds of investor relations teams to reimagine the media they use in their entire corporate earnings cycle – not just earnings calls, but also analyst callbacks, investor days, non-deal roadshows, and annual meetings.
“I think the analysts that I work with are getting very comfortable with video,” said Mary Turnbull, Managing Director of Raymond James’ Corporate Access group. “There’s a lot of nuances that you can glean from seeing a person’s face, and I think both analysts and corporates are keen to see that.”
“I believe that if you have an analyst on an investor communications call, they should be on by video,” OpenExchange CEO Mark Loehr emphasized. “We’re seeing people start to move there.” As they do, he pointed out, they are asking OpenExchange to help corporate IR teams manage the transition seamlessly.
During the session, Zoom’s Caleb Chase demonstrated features of the company’s Zoom Events platform, whose new “Backstage” features provide a virtual greenroom environment that facilitates the complex behind-the-scenes logistics management and communication that comes naturally with a high-stakes event like an investor day or earnings call. OpenExchange’s managed services team and OE Passport® platform round out the picture to ensure flawless execution of complicated events.
